Begin Again [edit]
by Over Ashes | Genre: Pop/Rock | Release Date: July 17, 2007

Over Ashes, new album, "Begin Again" is an inside window into the souls of the band. Justin David (Vocals and Bass) was the singer and bassist for underground sensation Cross Culture (Selectric Records). Cross Culture's debut album, "Proof Positive" sold over 20,000 copies in one year. After Cross Culture announced that they were on hiatus in October 2006, Justin David formed Over Ashes with longtime friend Denver Shindle, "At the point when I started Over Ashes with Denver, I had given music back to the Lord. All we want to do is write songs that bless the church," Justin admits.

Over Ashes makes its beliefs honest and transparent in its music. "Where I Want To Be" is a prime example, Justin explains, "It's a song about redemption and desperation. I think so many of us out there have come to the point in our lives where we have hit bottom and have been living a life that is so self serving. This is just a prayer and an anthem about striving to be more like God."

Produced by amazing duo of Justin Glasco (Jeremy Camp) and Justin York (Tait and Steven Curtis Chapman), "Begin Again" kicks off in a seize-the-moment anthem titled "Hangin' On" which successfully relates its message about perseverance in your spiritual journey, amidst life's ups and downs. The album maintains unwavering momentum from one track to the next. Among Over Ashes most musically diverse cuts is "All I Need", an acoustic worship song that makes you feel like you're in the room with Over Ashes worshiping the Creator together. "If you are passionate about something, it will be expressed in what you do. We always want to be consistent in expressing our passion for our Savior with our music. It should never be forced, but a natural outpouring of the heart and mind" says Shindle.

Aware that being a band on stage is something bigger, the members of Over Ashes draw on personal experiences to set their purpose as a group. "We strive to be an example to others individually and as a band," says Justin "we are driven by our personal faith experiences, and that comes out in everything we have to offer in our music."

Over Ashes is "Where They Want To Be!"

At the Beginning...Again | Posted August 14, 2007

Much like the mythic tale of the Phoenix, small label band Over Ashes' start came from the "ashes" of another promising young band. O.A.'s debut, Begin Again, is a fresh start for the former frontman of Cross Culture and his new bandmates. Fans might expect their sound to be similar to his previous band's fun, funk flavored-sound, but O.A. opts for a thoroughly modern rock sound.

This Buckeye State trio creates a sound that packs a solid musical punch. Over Ashes' music is full of energy and zeal. Denver Shindle's percussion is crisp, tight and compelling. Gardy Garcia, O.A.'s bassist, reinforces Shindle's drums and seamlessly blends with David's solid guitar work. No two songs of Begin Again are alike, but they all are held together by tight musicianship and the varied vocal stylings of David; who can deliver quiet, raspy lyrics and plaintive, shouted vocals with equal deftness.

The songs of Begin Again resonate with themes of hope and encouragement delivered in strong beats and catchy rhythms. Head-banging rock (i.e. Riot), riff-driven power anthems (i.e. The Author, Hangin' On, etc.) and radio-friendly modern rock (i.e. Where I Want To Be and Annual Father- one of my personal favorites) abounds. When the band slows things down, their ballads become worshipful, intimate, vertically-oriented songs.

Over Ashes' debut is a stirring message of redemption and trust delivered in a rockin' package. If you like Pillar, P.O.D., Linkin Park, and Chevelle make a point to check out this bands fantastic debut.

great | Posted May 27, 2008
this is a great album by a relatively unknown band. my favorite songs are Hanging On and One of These Days, but every song is great. Also, for the guys from Cross Culture, this a great followup to Proof Positive.

Praise God for Over Ashes | Posted August 29, 2007
Every song is a hit. This CD has eveything - great vocals and music. The lyrics bring hope and joy as they are truly inspired by God. I will be listening to these songs over and over again by this loving Christian band.

Simply put it, these guys rock! | Posted July 17, 2007
I have been a fan of Over Ashes for a few months now, after I received one of their sampler disc from a friend of mine.

I was impressed by the sampler disc and even more impressed with this album.

Begin Again was produced by guys from Jeremy Camp, Tait, Matt Kearney, Stephen Curtis Chapman and so much more (Justin York and Justin Glasco).

The record starts off with Hangin' On and ends with Wave. Through out the entire album the running theme is on God's forgiveness and the struggle of being the person God wants you to be. I have been blessed just listening to the album today, because so few albums actually are "Christian" anymore, they all want to be on MTV and so they make their relationship with God not appear in their music. But Begin Again is a christian album from start to finish and highly suggest you checking this band out. They're going to be huge!

Amazing | Posted July 17, 2007
This Album will make you want to jump around and rock out, and it will make you want to raise your hands in worship to God.

I am really excited to see where this band goes. Today was their release date, and I already am excited to hear what their next project sounds like.
