What I Was Made For [edit]

Big Daddy Weave hit the national scene with a bang! They became the BEST SELLING NEW ARTIST at Christian Retail in 2002 with the release of "One And Only," received numerous honors and accolades, and since then have garnered FOUR TOP 3 RADIO SINGLES between their two albums. While all of these things brought recognition to the band, their lives were turned upside down the summer of 2004- in both good and hard ways. Hurricane Ivan swept across the East Coast and demolished the band's offices and left their homes and communities devastated. Through this difficult time, Big Daddy Weave banded together and met with Jesus in a whole new way as their families were expanding and sharing the joys of new life in the midst of much loss. This album, more than any that have come before, is a very real peek into the lives of the members - their experiences and what they have learned.

My Only Mistake In Purchasing An Album | Posted August 13, 2007
What to do with $15 in birthday money? You're at Wal-Mart and you have the choice of Joy Williams' "Genesis" or Big Daddy Weave's "What I Was Made For". You've heard a couple of songs off both albums, and like them. What did I choose? Well, I thought buying Joy Williams would be embarrassing and not "manly" enough, so I said hello to the Big Daddy, and some bubble gum.

Big mistake. There's only 3 1/2 songs I like, and one is a Wal-Mart exclusive live song of "Neighborhoods". With that song, I think the Big Daddy should make a live record.

The album starts off well, "What I Was Made For" is a great rockin' song, and the band's best. "You're Worthy Of My Praise" is a great modern worship song, and Barlow Girl's best duet (that Selah one was just gosh darn awful). I also like Fred Hammond's part in "Killing Me Again". I think he has great lyrics in his part, and his short part in the track is better than all the tracks I haven't mentioned off this album, combined!

That's right, the rest is pretty bad. After a couple of songs, the album becomes VERY formomatic. Other songs are just poorly constructed, and poorly executed. And even after reading the explanation to "The Track Of Silence", I still think it's an excuse to lengthen the album, so it actually seems like you're getting your money's worth. You're not.

Overall, another bad formomatic album for the Big Daddy. I would recommend only buying the songs I mentioned off the Wal-Mart MP3 store to get the bonus track. Sorry Big Daddy, try a live record.

Great Album - But Not Their Best | Posted June 14, 2007
I've been a fan of Big Daddy Weave since their debut national release came out back in 2001. Since then, the band has certainly solidified their sound through better production, but their heart and passion has remained true to form. Big Daddy Weave is a worship band with original music. Their lyrics are vertical in nature and their music rouses a desire to turn out everything around you and focus on the grace and mercy of our God. Few artists and groups are able to do that as good as Big Daddy Weave. Their ability to guide the listener into a state of worship within the first two songs is pretty amazing. And when I say worship, I don't mean sitting there with your eyes closed, swaying back and forth to pretty, melodic tunes of praise. Most of the time, it's "shut the shades, close the door, make sure no one's looking and rock out" type of music. Think Napoleon Dynamite without the moon boots.

Big Daddy Weave's third album on Fervent Records finds the band expanding sonically with the rousing intro "What I Was Made For" (one of the best songs I've heard from the group, although it goes by too fast at just under 3 minutes) and the equally rocking "For Who You Are." Fred Hammond stops by for some Sunday morning church on "Killing Me Again" and the band threw on their worship duet "You're Worthy Of My Praise" with label mates BarlowGirl. The rest of the tracks, and I mean every single one of them, are solid reminders of God's strength, power and solidity.

So with their third album, the bases are certainly loaded with great music. I expect their fourth at bat to be nothing less than a Grand Slam. Speaking of What I Was Made For, I'm the king of cheesy analogies. And I'm ok with that.

Cool | Posted November 02, 2009
I've heard some of their songs before. They are pretty good. I haven't listened to them too much lately but the songs I've heard before, either on the radio or on a cd one of my family members have, I've liked.

Great! | Posted January 26, 2008
I didn't expect to like Big Daddy Weave because I thought their name was a little strange, LOL. So I heard "Just the Way I Am" on the radio & found out they sang it, I was surprised! I also love "You're Worthy of My Praise" because BarlowGirl sings backup vocals!

I've listened to this album a couple of times since i got it earlier this week. i enjoy it. however, i like heavier music as a general rule. that being said this is a good contemporary music cd. it was exactly what i expected it to be.

Yo Big Daddy! | Posted July 26, 2007
This CD kicks it off big (yes, pun intended) with the title song "What I Was Made For." It just rocks! I pretty much liked all of the upbeat songs on this CD as I'm pretty much an upbeat type of guy. Ha!

"Killing Me Again" was a cool and funky 70's type of song that was a little different style from the rest of the album, but I loved the song! Where's my platform shoes? :-)

I didn't quite get the beat on "Quiet Time" (just kidding!!!).

Overall a great CD and highly recommended.

Blessings!
