A Great Christmas EP!| Posted September 26, 2009
?This Christmas? was released alongside tobyMac?s first solo release ?Momentum? in 2001, a true EP with only 2 songs, this was a real treat for tobyMac fans looking forward to all the forthcoming dc Talk solo projects, but now also a treat for those who have since become such devoted fans of Toby?s music.
It starts off with ?This Christmas (Joy To The World)?, a very sweet tune about loving all around us, not only during Christmas, but all through the year, the bridge also adds the touch of ?Joy To The World? as well as a scripture reading by son Truett, aka truDog. A very catchy song that is sure to leave you with a very warm feeling, and a passion to love others. Toby?s striking rendition of ?O Come All Ye Faithful? closes the short EP with a bang--defiantly a different interpretation on the song. Reggae, hip-hip and the African Children?s Choir top of the song that is set to a very danceable beat--the song is also featured on the WOW Christmas Green album.
The only problem with this EP? It?s far too short! These two songs are enough to make you wonder what a full Christmas album from tobyMac and Diverse City would hold, and I hope that it is a venture that the group one days decides to do?this album is enough to prove that it would be more than amazing.

There's been some original Christmas albums over the year, and some great ones, Relient K, anybody? This one, even though it's two songs long, is the worst of them. There's a reason why not many people don't make Christmas rap songs, they don't work. This album is a prime example of that. The original song is not that great, in fact it's pretty bad for a Mac original.
"O Come All Ye Faithful" is a downright terrible version. Now I'm totally for rap/hip-hop, but not in Christmas music, it just doesn't work. What reason then is there to get this? None, tobyMac's worst effort yet. The master of music can't do Christmas. Sorry Toby.

I was so pleased last year when the Christmas season was approaching and I was able to pop in this CD before the radios started playing any Christmas tunes! "This Christmas," the title track, is a touching story of a young orphan boy named "Jonnie" (Johnny) who longs for a real family. It sends a heartfelt plea to God Who is the "Father of the fatherless" and encourages Christians to reach out to those who don't have a home. The appearance of Toby's son Truett (TruDog) reciting James 1:27 is adorable. “O Come All Ye Faithful” is a fun twist on an old Christmas favorite with a zestful Spanish sound. So if you’re lookin’ for some holiday cheer, go ahead and grab This Christmas for a fun holiday treat!

I loved these Christmas songs from tobyMac. They are two great songs from tobyMac. I just wished we would have made a Christmas album instead of just putting two Christmas albums on one CD. I would have loved to hear a whole Christmas album from tobyMac.

Finally some Christmas music with a little pisazz.Even though it's only two songs and not a true full out Christmas album,tobymac lays some of his style to "O come all ye faithful" and puts togehter a great Christmas song in "This Christmas".This is a cd that is a must for any tobymac fan.
