WHERE FAITH COMES FROM | Posted September 29, 2008
If Jared Anderson wanted his audience to figure out where his faith comes from by listening to his latest project of that very title, he just might have fallen short. While the album is filled with solid, positive songs of worship, it suffers from a lack of depth, creativity and originality. Cliché lyrics are rife throughout each track: “Your love is better than life”; “I want to be with You where You are”; “All I want is you…,” for example. And where the lyrics do become somewhat less familiar, they become somewhat stranger: “I’ve slayed the dragons like immortal Frodo Baggins…”

That’s not to say that there are no strong points to the album. It truly does deliver several statements of faith, obedience and a desire to be in God’s presence. But the unfortunate lack of contrast—from the real, tangible struggles of life to the more intangible desires of the heart—makes it somewhat unconvincing.

Musically, the album doesn’t break any new ground. The chord patterns are largely predictable, and the production is solid, yet underwhelming. On more than one track, listeners might find themselves trying to place where they’ve heard that particular lick, rhythm or melody before.

For sure, the faithful heart of Jared Anderson comes through on this album. But the musical quality indelibly suffers from a lack of serious soul-searching and risk-taking. Anderson may know where his faith comes from, but he fails to relate it clearly on this project. - Caroline Lusk

Jared Anderson's latest cd has a lot of good tracks. Hiding Place, I Know Where Faith Comes From, Glorified, are three of my favorites. All of the tracks on the album display Anderson's passion for God. Good album! I bought it shortly after it came out and am glad I did.

Updated 3/4/08: Of course after writing this review and typing up all the lyrics, I couldn't get the songs out of my head. So the melodies are definitely catchy and stay with you. I still find the lyrics lacking a little and I can't always connect them or make total sense of them, but its a good album.

Original Review: The melodies are great and he and his band know how to rock out. The melody lingers in your head and you find yourself humming but the lyrics don't always connect or make sense.

This cd is great for just playing in the background but not much else for me unfortunately. I guess I've been spoiled by the lyricism of Phil Wickham, Shane & Shane and David Crowder. They have that element of digging deeper than the regular cliches.

If you are a fan of Jared's by all means give this album a listen for yourself!

Just for me this album would join the ranks of a lot of my cds from the 90's ... just sitting on my shelf.

Wow !!! | Posted March 04, 2008
This CD is awesome! This is one of the best praise and worship CD's I have heard in a long time. The first song,"Promises" is an upbeat song that really starts this CD off on the right foot. But by far,the best songs are the slower ballads -"Hiding Place", "Beauty of the Lord" and "Difference" are what makes this CD great.
"Pleasing to You" is a fine ballad that really spoke to my heart. This should be a big song for Jared. In conclusion, don't pass on this one. People will be talking about this CD for a long time.

Jared Anderson has a lot of style. The opening track "Promises" is a great track and has a lot of guitar. He has a great voice and can keep a note. This guy is awesome! :>
