Kevin Davis: "Vicky has been most influenced musically by praise and worship artists Matt Redman, Tim Hughes and Delirious."
"Great Is Your Glory," by Vicky Beeching, is one of my favorite songs from Painting the Invisible and is one of the best vertical worship songs I’ve ever heard. Holding a Bachelor and Masters degree in Theology from Oxford University, Vicky has spent long years digging into God’s word. An Oxford educated, spirit filled Brit, perhaps best described in the words of Gordon Fee as "a scholar on fire," she holds a dual passion for "Spirit and Truth"--the Bible and the Holy Spirit working together in harmony. She is a unique mixture.

The song "Great Is Your Glory" is based on the following Bible verses:

John 1:14 (New King James Version)
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth

Hebrews 2:9 (New King James Version)
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (New King James Version)
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

I had the great pleasure of speaking with Vicky about a couple of her songs that have had an impact on me. Vicky wrote "Great Is Your Glory" with Ed Cash, who has co-written hit songs with Chris Tomlin including "Made To Worship," "How Can I Keep From Singing" and "How Great Is Our God."

Vicky has been most influenced musically by praise and worship artists Matt Redman, Tim Hughes and Delirious, as well as classical music which she studied at Oxford. Since coming to America, Vicky’s mentor is Melody Green, who is the widow of the pioneer Christian singer-songwriter Keith Green, writer of classic songs "There Is A Redeemer" and "Oh Lord You’re Beautiful."

Having written the main verses and chorus of "Great Is Your Glory" with Ed Cash, Vicky was visiting her friend and mentor Melody one day and while sitting at Keith’s piano, she wrote the bridge: “You Are the One who was, You Are the One who is, You are the One who is to come.”

She described the experience as being very worshipful and emotional. “All of our words fall so short; every melody failing to capture the true beauty of the Heavenly.” “When we write songs about God,” Vicky tells me, “though we see Him in everything He has made, to some degree we are flying blind. With our limited human resources we are struggling to find ways to express something that is heavenly. Yet because it is our passion, we can’t remain silent. So we search for words and melodies to describe Him. Hunting and rummaging into every corner of language and expression, raiding the closet of linguistics for a suitable outfit to clothe our feelings in words…we are describing the indescribable. We are ‘painting the invisible.'”

Lyrics to “Great Is Your Glory”

God came down and gave His life for me
Amen, Amen
Through flesh and blood, He fought for victory
Amen, Amen

Crucified, brought back to life
Amen, Amen
Seated at the Father's hand again
Amen, Amen

Great is the glory
of the Lord Almighty
Great is the glory of the Lord
I will sing with all my heart
Unto You Lord Almighty
Great is Your glory Lord

Crimson covered over sinless hands
Amen, Amen
But nails could never hold the Son of Man
Amen, Amen

Now the Father's love flows down on us
Amen, Amen
Hallelujah he will come again!
Amen, Amen

Great is the glory of the Lord Almighty
Great is the glory of the Lord
I will sing with all my heart
Unto You Lord Almighty
Great is Your glory Lord

You are the one who was
You are the one who is
You are the one who is to come

This is an incredibly moving song and prayer for me. If you want to sing your praise and thankfulness to God for sending His Son Jesus to die for us, this song really says what is on my heart. “Great is the Glory of the Lord” and “I will sing with all my heart unto You Lord Almighty”! Thank you Vicky, Ed, and Keith & Melody Green for using your gifts to help me sing and pray to my Lord and Savior. Amen.

You can listen to the song here.
