#75 - Distractions Christian artists update fans throughout the week via Twitter and NRT's Mary Burklin uncovers her Top 10 favorite tweets and photo uploads of the past seven days in this weekly column.
Sometimes even Hawk Nelson's mild-mannered bass player Dan (@danbiro) needs to let out some aggression, as @scottiemills reported.
This week the top ten list includes a lot of distractions in the touring process... whether it be iPhones, fire alarms, or unexpected detours through New York. Enjoy the events documented via Twitter below.
As always, if you'd like to keep tabs on over 1,200 Christian artists, check out our exclusive NRTwitter page to read the latest tweets from the Christian music community.
TOP TEN TWEETS
#1 - Career Options
@owlcity: Best thing about NYC is the loud raucous cab driver who won't stop asking questions. I'm basically paying him to annoy me. (September 11)
Adam Young's (Owl City) foray into New York City prompted this observation. This definitely suggests cab driving as a viable career option-- annoying people is an easy to acquire job skill.
#2 - Love Hate
@josephstamper: i go through about 98% of my life in love with my phone. but the other 2...i'd be ok if it got run over (September 12)
The newest member of Anthem Lights perfectly captured the love/hate relationship many of us have with our phones in less than 140 characters.
#3 - Beat Box Tips
@karijobe: According to @allsanddmusic, if you say 'Boots and Skirts' consecutively & quickly you will create your own beat box #RandomWednesday #tryit (September 12)
Kari Jobe and All Sons & Daughters are on the road together for the Where I Find You tour. So far the tour has produced this excellent advice on how to create your own beat box rhythm (you know you want to try it).
#4 - iConsume
@macpowell: I refuse to give into selfish, self-gratifying, American commercialism and buy the new iphone5 right away...I'm gonna wait at least a month. (September 12)
Given that the majority of artists seem to favor Apple products, it's no surprise that the reveal of the iPhone 5 caused a lot of buzz in the Christian music twittersphere this week. Third Day's lead singer added a voice of self control to the conversation... kind of.
#5 - Beautiful Things
@theafters: We want you to be a part of our new record! Share pics and videos of what makes life beautiful to you! Go here: http://www.theafters.com(September 13)
The Afters are inviting fans to inspire them. If you have a picture or video demonstrating what it is that reminds you that life is beautiful, send it their way via instagram (tagged with #theafterslifeisbeautiful) or upload directly to their site.
#6 - Reflections
@lecrae: What if you looked in the mirror & your reflection acted like it was the source & you were the reflection? Thats how we do God. (September 13)
Lecrae provided a particularly vivid metaphor for the way pride often shows itself. Despite the intense success of recent release, Gravity, the rapper's Twitter feed still focuses more on talk about Jesus than his own achievements.
#7 - Social Experiments
@codydriggers: Lesson of the day: Cops don't like it when you sleep in public parks and will not be kind about it. But those 4 hammock hours were glorious. (September 13)
The Wedding's bass player decided to attempt a social experiment this week by setting up a hammock in a public park and falling asleep. Despite the fact that he apparently can't recommend the experience (unless you want to be woken up rather abruptly by the police), he seems to have enjoyed it.
#8 - Hipster Puns
@ethanluck: Idea for Hip/Indie coffee shops that sell pastries… "The Bon Eclair" (September 14)
The beauty of this particular suggestion from Relient K drummer Ethan Luck is that only the elite who know (and insist on using) the correct pronunciation of indie artist Bon Iver's name will pick up on the pun. Maybe the celebration of obscurity is starting to go a bit too far?
#9 - Audio A Adopts
@kevinmax: thank you for all of the good will & congratulations on my @AudioAdrenaline adoption.... I am truly excited to unload new music on you. KM (September 14)
The big news this week was the official announcement regarding former DC Talk member Kevin Max's defaulting to a new incarnation of another classic Christian band, Audio Adrenaline. Expect some new tunes (most likely with a new K-Max flavor) soon.

#10 - Back to the 80s
@adamkronshagen: About to get the mullet cut by @BarbieAriel #murderer #sadday (September 14)
Mullet growing is a highly valued hobby among the Icon For Hire guys... though apparently the results are less than valued by lead singer Ariel (who seems to have a secret talent for hair cutting).
TOP TEN PICTURES
#1 - Burned
@BartMillard: Bad news: It hurts like who dunnit Good News: I'm a certified redneck! http://instagr.am/p/PdYx6mkk8d/ (September 11)
MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard spent an extra few days at Disney World following Night of Joy. Unfortunately, the sunburned aftermath was less than joyful.
#2 - Turn up the Bass
@NEEDTOBREATHE: They sent the wrong size bass amp. @drsethbolt is not a happy camper. http://instagr.am/p/PfCe3wHqZ7/ (September 12)
NEEDTOBREATHE's bass player might be able to make this work... if he had 10 more of them.
The Struggle Tour (featuring Tenth Avenue North, Audrey Assad, and Rend Collective Experiment) ran into a literal struggle this week-- with the fire alarm. Fortunately, good company can make any situation a party.
The Hawk Nelson guys are out on the road again, and unfortunately their van doesn't seem to be having a good tour experience so far.
#8 - Combo Tunes
@blancareyes: Had such a blast tonight in PA with @therealtobymac and the diverse city band! Truly a night i will never forget! ☺ http://lockerz.com/s/244744740(September 15)
Blanca of Group 1 Crew got the chance to add her vocal skills to TobyMac's Diverse City band for a show. This power combination is certainly a night the audience won't forget either.
#9 - Drumming Expressions
@DuncanPhillips: This guy definitely has mental issues! Thanks Mason Photography @Newsboys #fb http://instagr.am/p/PpUT4AlwMu/(September 16)
Duncan Phillips of the Newsboys is a man of many talents-- including gracing the stage with incredibly unique and varied expressions while drumming. Fortunately, another of his talents is knowing when not to take himself too seriously.
#10 - Detours
@BECKAHSHAE: We were on our way to Israel.... & then this happened..?! Lol #NY pic.twitter.com/jOzcUzKy (September 16)
Beckah Shae is on her way to Israel, but some unexpected flight delays provided a detour... to New York City. Fortunately, being detained in one of the busiest cities in the States means there is no chance of boredom.
