He is without a doubt the trailblazer in Gospel Reggae, and is known as Jamaica’s fastest lyrical speaking DJ.  His astounding international success and a hearty signature sound has established him as a visionary in Reggae music while being anchored adamantly in Kingdom building.

 

With a career spanning over twenty years, Papa San has emerged to the forefront in music and in ministry as a leader and an innovator continuing to push the envelope with enthralling rhythmic Dancehall music immersed in the Word.  This evolution is reflected in his continual presentation of poignant lyrics and in his dedication to the Gospel.  “It’s taken me a while to get here, to evolve into the Christian I am now,” he states.  “I know who I am and who I represent. I represent the Father, I am His son.” 

 

Papa San has successfully taken his Dancehall roots, his love for the traditional groove of reggae and a flare for banging the hard core beats of Hip Hop to become a Dove Award Nominated, Stellar Award, Marlin Award and World Music Award winning Caribbean artist who has garnered fans throughout the world.  A sample of his impressive catalog includes: Pray Fi Dem (1993 – RAS Records), No Place Like Home (1995 – VP Records), Victory (1999 – Gospel Centric) peaking at #5 on the Top Reggae Albums, Real & Personal (2005 – Gospel Centric), God & I (2003 – Gospel Centric), and his last offering Higher Heights (2009 – Habakkuk/Beloved Records) which topped Billboard’s Top Reggae Albums at #4 and Top Gospel Albums at #19. 

 

Papa San's phenomenal on-going reign on international music charts earned him the nickname "Marathon Man" with hits such as "I Will Survive", "Legal Rights", "Strange", "Maddy Maddy Cry", and a feature on Kirk Franklin’s hit song “Awesome God” and Toby Mac’s “Whoopsie Daisy (Catchafire)”.  At any given time, it is common for him to simultaneously hold down several Top 10 chart positions.  This longevity with number one hits has yet to be surpassed by any Reggae or Dancehall artist.  His consistency limits no boundaries and has built an extensive fan base throughout the Caribbean Islands, Japan, Europe, Africa and the United States.

 

The hit-making continues in true form with a heavy hitting new CD, MY STORY, which released on his own indie label Beloved Records and distributed by Central South Distribution.  Papa San reveals his continual evolution throughout My STORY which candidly journals his life experiences, life troubles and life victories.  The project features Contemporary Christian music’s multi-award winning singer/songwriter Nicole C. Mullen on “Source Of Strength” and Grammy Nominated vocalist Trey Lorenz on “Rescue Me”, the endearing ballad delivering an encouraging message of the shield that God’s love provides during life’s storms. 

 

Title track “My Story” truly chronicles Papa San’s life from youth and growing up, how he handled crucial situations in his life, to the triumphant man today who is saved by the Blood and rooted in Christ.  “Glory God” is an infectious high spirited anthem of praise that just makes the soul want to dance.  In the stand out track “Devotion”, Papa San emphasizes that through a personal fellowship with the Lord and our devotion to Him, peace will prevail. Devotion time is healing time.

 

Papa San’s My Story is representation of a life fueled by a musical pallet that was cultivated by growing up in an audible atmosphere of Bob Marley and Dennis Brown, infused with the American pop and soul sounds of Donna Summer and Nat King Cole, interlocked with the innovative contemporary urban sounds of today.  His story is one of being raised by his grandmother, and taught the doctrines of Rastafarian religion, and witnessing violence that took the life of two of his brothers.  His story is experiencing conviction of his heart, growing into a relationship with the only one Savior Jesus Christ, and conveying his love and faith for God through an entertaining yet life changing medium we call music.
