One thing shines through when speaking with the members of two-time Dove Award nominee Brother's Keeper: this is no garden-variety, thrown-together-for-commerce's-sake musical machine. Philip Enzor, John Sanders and Gabe Dunlap grew up together, discovered music together, and merged common passions into a powerful ministry...together. The result has been over a decade of putting their hearts and talents out there for the world to see through captivating live performances and critically acclaimed records, such as their 1999 self-titled debut, and 2002's Cover Me. Now, the band returns with their signature sophisticated rhythms, instantly memorable melodies and intricate harmonies on their highly anticipated third album Beyond Beautiful. The ten-song project, which released January 24, 2006 on Training Union Records/Ardent Records, marks the end of a three-year hiatus. "God was really working on some different things in our lives, whether it be business or families or whatever," Gabe says. "What we had decided after Cover Me was not just to fling a record out there. We wanted to take our time with it." The intervening years brought profound changes, not only in the lives of the Brother's Keeper members, but also in the world and pop culture. "For us, making this record was about pulling together messages and songs that moved our hearts, lives and spirits where we were, but that will also encourage and motivate other people"Christians and non-Christians alike," says Sanders. "From a musical standpoint, we want people to really enjoy it and think, 'Man, that's solid. They didn't cut any corners.' But the message is paramount to us." Beyond Beautiful showcases this musical and spiritual maturity. The subject matter covered -- ranging from the desire expressed in "Noah" to be fully open to God's calling, to the honoring of sacrifice found on "Cross of Christ," to the energizing spirit of "Passion" -- present these men's desire for relevance and genuineness in the face of the everyday. For the song "Walk With Me," written by Tony Wood and 4HIM's Mark Harris, Brother's Keeper gathered some of the finest male vocal talent in Christian music, including Harris, Bob Carlisle, Todd Agnew, Scott Krippayne, Sonicflood's Rick Heil, the Gaither Vocal Band's David Phelps, Russ Lee and Newsong's Michael O'Brien, to pay honor to the idea of Christian brotherhood and accountability. In the long run, the men of Brother's Keeper crafted Beyond Beautiful to the very best of their collective abilities, to serve as a motivator and a communicator of a message that has bound them together for more than half their lives.
