***This is a WARNING***
Avoid alcohol and the party scene!!!
Today in my local newspaper, there is a story about a former high school football star, who just got out of high school and a couple of weeks ago, he went to a party of mostly college kids. But as he was leaving, he was shot and tonight, he is DEAD!!! NEEDLESSLY!!!
I don't know everything that happened the night he was shot, but I know he never thought that this would happen when he went. He went to have a good time, be with his friends and to really just "fit in".
Many times this lifestyle begins way before college or even high school. I want to encourage you, DON'T GO THAT ROUTE!!! I have seen the effects of alcohol in numerous ways throughout my life. First of all, I lived next to what you might call the "town drunk" for 20 some years. I saw what it did to his life. It destroyed his family, he had no job, he lived in a run down house with no running water, etc, etc.
Once when I was in elementary school, a drunk driver crashed right in front of my house while going at a high rate of speed, while my neighbor friend and I watched. We were fortunate that he never hit us.
Another guy that I used to live beside used to like to come home after a hard days work and "have a beer." Well, down the road a few years, troubles came his way and he ended up killing himself. I have no doubt that alcohol played a part in his decision to take his life.
A number of young people I went to school with has been killed because of alcohol. ALL OF THEM NEEDLESSLY!!!
And also, where I used to work, my best friend and I were alot alike, like the same teams in sports, etc. We even shared to same birthday. The one area we differed in was he drank and I didn't. Well, my brother was starting a small business and we asked him to come with us. I was very interested, but wanted to do what was best for his family, so he said he would let me know. We were to start working the next week, but the Friday before, he called me up and everything seemed great. He was wanted to come with us and we talked for aound 20 minutes or so. The next dat was my grandmother's estate sell. As we were finishing up, my cousin had just heard and he came by and asked me if I had heard about him. I said "No." He tolded me he had been killed the night before. I COUNLDN'T BELIEVE IT! Everything was fine when we talked, but I found out later that he started drinking shortly after we hung up and ended up crashing his car that left him decapitated!!! I had a hard time dealing with that!!! He said he wanted to do what was best for his family, but his decision to start drinking, not took his life, but destroyed his family and brought great pain to myself and others.
I don't want anything like this to ever happen to any one of you!!! Don't even get involved being a "social drinker." What will you turn to when troubles come and they will come. Will you turn to a bottle or turn to God? Alcohol is a killer!!! My friend had no idea what was about to happen to him when he started drink that evening. You don't have to go that way!!! I didn't!!! Was it worth it? Well, I'm alive and my friend is dead!!! What do you think??? Sometimes when I see something that I know he would have enloyed, I think about the good good times he has missed. Drinking may start out as fun, but it can kill you unexpectedly!!!
II Cor. 11:14- ...Satan is transformed into an angel of light.
Romans 3:23- For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23- For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
I Peter 5:8- Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9- Whom resist stedfast in the faith...
John 10:10- The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 3:17- For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
My prayer is that this has helped and encouraged you somehow. If you have something you'd like to share concerning this story, please feel free to contact me at my user name- 4HisGlory or email me at Gsus4givesU@aol.com
Stay Strong!!!

My stepdad likes to drink, too, so it was easy for me, my stepbrothers, and our cousins to sneak some and go out partying. One night, though, when I was 13, my favorite cousin said some mean things to me. I had a switchblade in my hand, forgot it was there and hit Patrick in the stomach. He went to the hospital, but he died a month later of an internal infection. I will never drink again!
