|
|
Well, I'm known to be very picky about vocals when it comes to music, quite often they'll make or break a band for me.
But good vocals, I've found, can make a band go from good to completely awesome, and I really like bands that have a unique vocalist that sets them apart from any other band (read- not 80s rock).
So. Who do you think of as the most recognizable vocalists?
Trevor McNevan- TFK and FM Static
Stephen Christian- Anberlin
Davey Havok- AFI
Gerard Way- My Chemical Romance
Lacy Mosley- Flyleaf
Hayley Williams- Paramore
Bear Rinehart- NEEDTOBREATHE (and not in a good way....ick)
What about you all?

I was just thinking recently that NTB vocals sounds like Third Day a bit.
As for unique, well, no matter who I say, somebody will tell me they sound just like so and so. That's how people recommend music to each other, anyway. |

/\ her accent is recognizable as an australian accent, but her voice isn't really a stand out voice.
Johnny Cash's deep, low bass voice is pretty recognizable, as are Frank Sinatra's and David Bowie's. |

IDK, sounds like a pretty common vocal type actually, thick southern drawl and a deep voice- I can name a ton of country vocalists that sound the same.
I'd add Jen from Skillet.
I guess when I said unique, though, I was kinda think vocalists that you could pick out on a guest track without knowing they were on it. That iconic.

IDK...Aussie accent just isn't that unique.
For absolutely knock you flat vocal performances, I've been listening to Alive Again by Matt Maher (thank you free downloads!) and its absolutely amazing.

I'm not talking about her accent. I'm just talking about her voice. You hear one of her songs on the radio or if she's in a song you're gonna know right away that it's Rebecca St. James. |
