Greetings NRTeamers!
My name is Jay Heilman and I am the founder and webmaster for the on-line music review and information ministry, ChristianMusicReview.org. CMR is currently a ministry partner of NewReleaseTuesday.com along with other Christian media and radio stations such as Christian Living Magazine, Salem Communications (10 nationwide "Fish FM" Radio Stations), LightForceRadio.com & more.
For those of you who are familiar with CMR, know that we are a non-profit ministry whose entire review team is made up of volunteers, including myself. Reviews are just one part of our site, as we also have feature articles, promotions and exclusive artist interviews. Our reviews and content have the ability through our site and our partner ministry sites to reach audiences of hundreds of thousands of readers per month.
Here is where we need your help. After reading the paragraph below, if you are interested (seriously) in helping us out, please email me at the email address below. Thanks in advance for your interest!
Here's What We're In Need Of ...
CMR is looking for someone to head up our interview and podcast ministry, Kingdom Builder, as well as perform duties as a member of our writing team in reviewing music albums, movie and films and Christian literature. I currently head up this part of the ministry and with the need to expand CMR and implement a new content management system, host and independently ran platform in the next few months. The need has come up for me to be able to break off from this particular ministry, so that I can focus more on the website as far as expansions, editing and building new content goes. Kingdom Builder is probably the biggest part of CMR aside from our reviews and has grown bigger and bigger in popularity and will continue to be a huge part of CMR's ministry on-line.
Here is info on the qualifications and skills needed to perform each:
Kingdom Builder -
KB is a podcast that was started on CMR in January 2008 as a way to feature both pre-recorded and live interviews that have been conducted by CMR's writing team. KB is also the exclusive home of the audio portion of the interviews from Kevin Davis, who is NRT's Devotion Writer for "Behind the Song w/ Kevin Davis" & CMR's Lead Review. Other content also includes interviews conducted at concerts, tours and music festivals.
The person who heads up this ministry will need the following ...
* Performing the duties as KB Podcast Ministry Leader as an unpaid volunteer.
* Own a computer with Sound and/or Video Editing Software.
* Have an 'Ear for Editing'. The ability to be able to edit pieces of audio and/or video together for use on KB podcast sounding as seamless as possible.
* Approx. 4-5 hours per week to devote to cutting, editing and posting interviews from a raw and uncut MP3 source as well as creating a new intro and outro for the KB podcast for use on CMR and other affiliate sites.
* Writing Ability - Being able to occasionally write reviews. No one on our ministry writing team holds a degree in journalism (except for Liz Haveman), so we don't feature 'Wall Street Journal' style reviews and feature articles, but this person needs to have the ability to write an honest, straight forward and somewhat professional review to feature on CMR and other affiliate sites, from a message-first standpoint.
As part of CMR's ministry team, you will have many opportunities to be able to do many of the following things...
* The opportunity to review pre-release albums, books and films, some up to two months prior to the street-date for posting as a reviews on CMR and our affiliate sites.
* The opportunity to conduct in-person and phone interviews with various Christian artists, athletes and celebrities for use on Kingdom Builder.
* The opportunity to attend various concerts, music festivals and special screenings a member of CMR's media team, as well as meeting artists.
* The opportunity to receive free merch and music from labels and etc.
The person who is chosen to head up this ministry, most importantly needs to be able to work under a deadline; be serious about his/her work and contribution; work with honesty and integrity; be creative and the ability to be able to have a lot of fun!

Call up the local CSB School of Broadcasting in the Tampa and/or Orlando area and see if they have any Christian interns who can do a little work for you. Keep in mind, more than likely, most of them will have a large student loan they will have to pay back, but they'd probably appreciate the experience, even if it was just for a short period of time. In general, CSB internships run 3-6 months.
After I graduated, I was assigned to do an internship at a nationally syndicated talk show, which turned into a PAYING gig. The program director asked me to be his PR rep. I loved working there, but due to lack of funds, the show was canceled and that was that! With all due respect, if you can pay an intern, it would really be a plus because they do need to purchase audio gear & software, which can cost thousands of dollars. Combined with a student loan, it can be very costly; however, their skills meet most of the criteria you are looking for. Keep in mind, they were not taught how to write AP style; they were taught how to write scripts for radio and television. Furthermore, on top of student loans and audio equipment, they also have to purchase Adobe Audition, the industry-standard software for radio & podcasting, and that usually costs about $350! I was very fortunate as I was able to obtain the software "legally" for a third of that, and one-third of my schooling was funded by an industry scholarship. I'm praying that God will provide the funds for my gear. I have to come up 1k worth of equipment. It does cost quite a penny to get industry-standard gear, but it's worth it!
Now that I think about it, your intern will also need music beds and sound effects. Unless a person has access to that, they will also have to furnish music for the intro and outro of your show. That, too, can be costly, unless they work in the production dept. of a radio or television show, or know someone with access to that music. I know the music beds at the school weren't good enough for any spot I did. I had to import them from other sources. I think I can get some industry-standard music beds from the Academic Superstore for about $350, possibly cheaper? All this costs money. The Academic Superstore is a great source for discounted software for audio and video production. All you need is a college ID from an accredited school. Unfortunately, CSB didn't qualify for the student discount. I had to use my cousin's ID, and they were cool with it.
