| Kevin Max to Join Michael Tait In Newsboys
It appears that 2/3 of dcTalk has reunited--just not in the way you might think. On Sunday, Kevin Max confirmed that he will be joining his former bandmate Michael Tait as part of Newsboys.
"We are really pleased to welcome Kevin to the family," Newsboys drummer Duncan Phillips said. "I'm still the only Australian here, but Kevin reminds me a lot of [former bassist] Phil Joel. It'll be great to have him."
Max's appearance on the Newsboys' latest album, God's Not Dead, fueled speculation that a longer-term, more official partnership was at hand.
Due to the changes, sources within the Newsboys' management leaked that the band soon will be changing its name to "NewsTalk."
"It started out as a joke that was floated around when they pulled Tait in," the source said, "but after Kevin came on board, we realized that we no longer were dealing with just the Newsboys. This has become a fantastic, unapologetic mutant band."
The source said Toby McKeehan (a.k.a. "tobyMac") was approached to join Newsboys, but declined due to his own project of filling his Diverse City Band full of former members of the David Crowder*Band--a project code-named "D.C.D.C.B."
