|You're the God of this City
Poverty has many faces. Since i’ve been at Jefferson Street Baptist Center i’ve seen a lot of these faces, but not even close to the increasing number of homeless faces there are in America, or even the world. I’ve taken so much of my life for granted and there is no excuse for it. What brought me to come here? The only answer is: The Spirit of God. I know that I still have so much to learn as I build a more intimate relationship with my Creator. I came to Louisville because I wanted to be involved in a change in the homeless here. Little did I know that I would see more change in myself instead.
How do I find out what God’s plan is for my life? Am I supposed to be a teacher? Am I supposed to be something else? Jesus told me this: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself. Then BAM! it didn’t matter what I had planned for my distant future or even my near future. I’m here to live each day growing closer to the Lord God; to love Him with all my heart, all my soul and all my mind. Being here in Louisville and living in community; I’m learning how to love my neighbors too.
I’ve realized that I’m not just an outsider coming into Louisville to make my mark, change some lives, and leave. No, I’m here to be God’s light. I’m here to become an insider. I’m here to love, because God first loved me. I’m here because I have faith that God will work and is working in this city. Jesus reached out the poor and needy… so why shouldn’t we do the same?
