Wednesday was quite a day for me.
Here I thought it would just be a regular, crazy flamingo filled night of church (don't ask about the flamingo..), it was far from it.
We did the normal run-a-muck things we usually do before it started, but when we started, instead of having a message and prayer time and game and all that, we just sang worship for an hour. Some people were NOT excited, just because they feel obligated to stand there and sing some words for an hour, but goodness.. I was over the moon excited!
I think one of my favorite things in this whole world to do is just.. sing to Jesus. Yeah, that sounds pretty cliche, but I mean.. I'm allowed to be cliche, right?! I feel when I sing to Jesus, I can get out my emotion. I of course pray and all that, and that DEFINITELY does help me connect to Christ, but there's just something that comes over me when I'm singing. Anyways.
The first few songs in, were kind of fun songs, that were fast going and just flat out dance-party-like, which you know, I can get into to a degree. But it wasn't till we got into the legit WORSHIP songs, that things got real.
Let's stop and think about this for a minute... What is worship, exactly?
I think sometimes, "worship", can be easily mixed up with, "obligation".
Sometimes, say, if I'm at church, and we start the worship music, it can be like.. "Uggghhh. I don't want to stand here and sing some words."
Since when did worship become a thing on the to-do list???
For further info, I looked up the definition of "worship". These are the 2 things that came up:
a. The reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object.
So if we're talking about actual WORSHIP, we're saying it's LOVE, and DEVOTION towards GOD.
b. The ceremonies, prayers, or other religious forms by which this love is expressed.
Again... love. "This LOVE is expressed". That's pretty... big.
Worship, basically, is love. Worship is expressing your love for God. And since when is that something to put on "the list"?
To Do Today:
1. Take out the garbage
2. Update Facebook status
3. Worship God.
Sorry, but that's totally messed up.
Back to my story.
The part when I really like, got into it (that's a horrible term, but the only thing I can think of that's appropriate.), was at one particular song (that I'm sure a lot of you have heard.). "Beautiful Things", by Gungor.
Goodness.. Everytime I hear this song, I sob like a ninny. Like, no joke. So when the band started playing it I just thought, "I love this song! ...Oh wait, now I'm gonna cry. Everyone is going to think I'm crazy." But it didn't go down like that at all.
"You make beautiful things out of the dust."
The moment those words came out of my mouth, it hit me. I could just feel God like.. there. And there, in that moment, was the coolest thing ever. Just standing there, barefoot, singing to God how I feel.. nothing like it.
I know this may all sound like some cheesy greeting card, but for crying out loud, I'm dead serious.
There is nothing like God's love.
God loves you, you screwed up little sinful human, no matter what. All He wants, is for us to LOVE Him back. Express our love for HIM. WORSHIP HIM. He made you BEAUTIFUL out of the DUST.
I'm gonna challenge you here... Take worship off the to-do list. How about.. the I-would-be-HONORED-to-do list. When you worship, don't do it out of obligation. Do it because you want to express your love for God.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control,
