A Time For Change
Category: News Politics
Views: 115

All of us are living in a time that requires change, both as a county and as individuals. For those of you who don't know (maybe most of you) tonight there were presidential debates on TV for both parties, the republicans and democrats. I was watching them and I got a sense of what both sides are calling for: change. I know what I'm talking about sounds political, but tonight got me thinking about some things.

We look at our culture today and we see various problems. And these are issues that almost everyone agrees are not good. For example, teen suicide, teen pregnancy, teen drug usage, depression, school violence, school shootings, and so forth. There are so many issues that plague us as a nation and as individuals. We live in a time that requires change. I believe that we are coming to a place where we must decide what we stand for. In an era where relativism is growing, we must understand that we are made for absolutes. Why is it that we cry out when we see the death of a loved one, or hear about school shootings, or see injustice happening around us? Is it because of relativity? No, it's because we all have a conscience, or a profound sense of morality. That's how we've been made. Some people choose to disregard this early and that's why they seem to have no issue with doing terrible things, but those people are a small minority. For nearly all of us, we have an inner sense of what's right and wrong. And it's time we stand up and defend those things. Because the very existence of society depends on these fundamental principles.

I don't know your political views. I don't know your social views. I don't know your religious views. But I'd ask you to consider what your life views are. How do you view life? Because regardless of your political affiliation or social status, these issues effect you and those around you. And your life views define what you think about other these other views. We must unite as people on what common ground we have: our existence. We may disagree on specifics of public policy, but I think we can all agree that there are changes needed to be made. So, let's rise up as a people to reclaim our culture.

I must also make another point. How we view life is in a large way dependent on how we view ourselves. How did we get here? What is our purpose and significance in life? If we view ourselves as the result of random processes coming together to form non-unique animals, then this viewpoint will give us a negative impression of life. However, if we view ourselves as specially crafted, unique humans created not from a distant process, but by a personal Creator, then our viewpoint of life is so much richer. With this viewpoint we look at ourselves and others with a whole new perspective. We understand why we cringe at suffering, diseases, violence, and other problems in our world. We cringe because these issues affect real, matchless people, not just any common animal.

So in closing, I challenge you to consider how you view our society and yourself. Do you view these issues around us as a threat, or just the next craze? I urge you to consider how the problems are not just part of the "natural" process of living, but are in fact impostors to how life should be. When all of life began, the original purpose was to live perfectly and free. Well, you can obviously see that our choices as humans have changed that original perfection. And it seems like the more years that go by, the worse it gets. I'm not advocating world peace or an earthly solution to all problems, because there won't be perfection until the King of kings returns, but I am advocating that people who understand what they're here for would stand up and defend life. And in reality, true life cannot be experienced apart from the Creator who created us, just like a painting cannot exist without the painter who painted it. The masterful Painter of our lives is alive and personal. Have you met Him?
