Avoid alcohol and the party scene!!!
A couple of weeks ago in my local newspaper, there is a story about a young man who had just graduated and was a former local football star. He had went to a party and as he was leaving, he was shot and a few days later, he was DEAD!!! NEEDLESSLY!!!
I don't know everything that happened the night he was shot, but no doubt he never thought that this would happen when he went. He went to have a good time, be with his friends and to really just "fit in".
Many times in today’s society, this type of lifestyle begins way before college or even high school. I want to encourage you, PLEASE DON'T GO THAT ROUTE!!! I have seen the effects of alcohol in numerous ways throughout my life. First of all, I lived next to what you might call the "town drunk" for 20 some years. I saw what alcohol did to his life. He did have a family, but alcohol destroyed it and I don’t ever remember seeing them there in 20 plus years He had no job, he lived in a run down house with no running water, etc. I personally had nothing against him, as he never did anything to hurt me. But I do have something against alcohol.
When I was in elementary school, a drunk driver crashed right in front my house and my friend and I as we were outside playing. He had been traveling at a high rate of speed. We were fortunate that he never hit us.
Another guy that used to be my neighbor, would like to come home after a hard days work and "have a beer." After he moved away, troubles came his way and he ended up killing himself. I have no doubt that alcohol played a part in his decision to take his life.
There has been quite a few young people I went to school with has been killed because of alcohol. ALL OF THEM NEEDLESSLY!!!
And also, my best friend, where I used to work, he and I were a lot alike. We liked the same teams in sports, etc. We even shared to same birthday. We always got along great, with never a hard word between us. But the one area we differed in was he drank and I didn't. Well, my brother was starting a small business and we asked him to come with us. He was very interested, but wanted to do what was best for his family, so he said he would let me know. We were to start working the next week, but the Friday before, he called me up and everything seemed great. He was wanting to come with us and we talked for around 20 minutes or so. The next day I heard that he had been killed the night before. I COUNLDN'T BELIEVE IT! Everything was great when we talked, but I found out later that he started drinking shortly after we hung up and ended up getting into his car and having a horrific accident that left him decapitated. I had a hard time dealing with that. It really took me many years just to learn to live with it. He had said he wanted to do what was best for his family, but his decision to start drinking, not only took his life, but destroyed his family and brought them as well as all his friends, including myself, great pain.
I don't want anything like this to ever happen to any one of you!!! Don't even get involved being a "social drinker." My friend first mistake was the day he decided to take his first drink. PLEASE DON’T START!!! If you already do, PLEASE STOP!!! What will you turn to when troubles come and they will come. Will you turn to a bottle or the Bible? Alcohol is a killer!!! My friend had no idea what was about to happen to him when he started drink that evening. Please don‘t let it happen to you!!! You don’t have to drink to fit in. I didn't!!! Was it worth it? Well, I'm alive and my friend is dead!!! What do you think??? Drinking may start out as fun or maybe you do it to be sociable, but it can kill you unexpectedly!!! If your friends can’t respect that, then they are not your friends and you are better off without them. When you really need them, they won’t be there for you. You may feel that no one loves you and no one cares, but I do!!! That’s why I am writing this. Satan took my good friend, now he must pay, in Jesus name. I hope to somehow be used by God to rescue a multitude from Satan’s snares, for the glory of God, in Jesus name!!!
