Jason Gray Concert
Category: Music

Hey guys, I probably won't go way too in depth with this because I need to do my devotional and go to sleep, but I was to write about the concert quickly and a random thought I had.

Ok, first the thought. Lately I've been on a concert binge, I guess is what you might call it. I've been so psyched for each of the concerts I've gone to and had a great time at each consequently, but I have noticed a scary trend: I tend to get selfish at concerts. I get wrapped up in taking pictures, getting autographs, and being entertained. When I should really be focusing on the Lord.

Do you really think these artists out doing this job so that you can say you've met them or so you can buy their merch and bring it home autographed to show all your friends? I'm sure some place emphasis on that because that is how they make money, but still. They aren't doing their job hoping that you'll get selfish. They desire you to grow closer to God and live for Him. that is why I'm planning on putting less stock in concerts in the future. O sure, I'll go to them, but I don't think I'm going to take my camera anymore, and if I get their autograph I hope I can do it in humility rather than selfishness.

So there's my thought: take it, leave it, throw it around; but I hope you at least think if you are doing something similar to what I have been.

Ok, enough of that, onto the concert :P. Well apparently it was set up by this church plant so there was relatively few people there(I'd say 50-100. And Jason said he played for 2000 the night before :P.). Also because it was set up by this church, the opening band was their praise team. The lead singer wasn't bad, with some better training he could be fairly good. I enjoyed their rendition of "Grace Like Rain." The rest of the songs were just ok, but the last two("After The Music Fades" by Shaun Groves and "Pieces" by RED) were the best aside from "Grace Like Rain". They played 5 songs in about 30 mins time. We then took a 5 min intermission and then Jason came out!

Jason was really funny. He joked with us all night, it was really cool. He used us as his "Lab Rats" to test out some new songs; since we were in a more intimate setting. He said "Lets just pretend we're in my living room jamming out...except with this huge spot light." Or something to that effect. He played roughly 5 new songs for us, and he said he was going to start recording in 3 weeks for his new album. His new songs were really good. I enjoyed all of them a lot.

Another funny thing about the night was he messed up...a lot, lol. Well firstly because he was playing a lot of new stuff, but at one point he was going to his song "Curiosity Killed the Cat" and he was like, "Finally something I actually know!" but then he messed it up in the middle. Lol. So he said "Maybe I should go back to the stuff I don't know." Since he kept messing up all night one of his recurring jokes was that he was really a lot better on his Cd's and never messed up on there, lol.

If you don't know Jason has a slight stutter. And it was funny because he said "I've been talking a lot tonight. I think maybe that's one reason God gave me a stutter. To shut me up." Lol. But in the end he talked/sang for about 2 hours and we had a good old time :). I got his autograph and a picture at the end, but he doesn't look that good in it :P.

(I'll edit in pictures tomorrow)
