I believe that America (Christians included) have fallen into the trance of overabundance, and have forgotten the purpose of our founding. Before the Pilgrims first landed on this continent they bound themselves together under an oath, "We whose names are under-written having undertaken for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith and honor of our king and country, a voyage to plant the first colonie in the Northern parts of Virginia do by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politick. This is known as the "Mayflower Compact". Their stated purpose was to have God be glorified and advance the Christian faith. The propagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was, I believe, God inspired and the providential purpose of the establishment of civil government in America.

When the three little ships, the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery, that had launched from England over four months earlier finally set their anchors off the shores of Cape Henry, the minister Rev. Robert Hunt lifted his hands towards heaven and claimed these lands for King, country and the Glory of God partially fulfilling the oath they had all taken.

Ro 13:11 ¶ Besides this you know what <a critical> hour this is, how it is high time now for you to wake up out of your sleep (rouse to reality). For salvation (final deliverance) is nearer to us now than when we first believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Christ, the Messiah).

Eph 5:14 Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light.

I believe it is only when we as believers awaken to the reality of our purpose as Christians in this world that things in society and our culture will change. We are the Light that is set on a hill to bring light to the darkness below. We are the Salt that has been given to season this culture with Truth.
