I Never Forgot (Jason Gray Inspired) Category: Poetry Views: 8
You hold up a mirror
I know it's a picture
A photo of some other guy
He's wounded and wasted
Which I've never tasted
Here in my own perfect life
By happiness, I'm literally surrounded
How could you say that I've never found it?
Chorus:
The more I possess
The more I'm possessed
By an aching for something I've not
You've always told me
That You want to hold me
And I'm always holding that thought
One that I never forgot
With towel and razor
A bowl of soap lather
To shave the beard that I let grow
Hides the sight of my face
A far lesser disgrace
Than the sadness I don't want to show
Some days I just wish I was dead
Give me the strength, to lift up my head
Chorus
My humanity, by default
Proclaims my perfection a lie
God as my witness, I'm giving You all
'Cause the worst English word of all is "try"
Chorus
That I never forgot
Hold me now, hold me close
To You, to You
'Cause I never forgot
