A wonderful time of Worship | Posted May-31-2011
I really enjoyed it.  I was hoping it would be along the sound of some of her Superchick stuff (Breathe & Crawl), I love the Cello and sweet purity of her voice and I was not disappointed.  My favorites on this album are: You are My Shepherd, You Hear, Broken for Love's Sake, Jesus I am Resting, Resting.  I really love her version of an old hymn.  It really brought the hymn to life :)

Surprisingly worshipful | Posted July-16-2010
I had no idea who these guys were ... but from the first pluck of a string, I had a feeling I would like them. They sound like a mix between Jon Foreman on his Seasons EPs, a little Tenth Avenue North ... and some early Steve Fee before they were Fee ... all of whom I love!

Very ... worshipful. 1/4 of the way through the album and suddenly you find your heart and mind being drawn to the attributes of God's character. You are taken heavenward ... and its simply beautiful. They closed the album beautifully with Esther :)

Eh ... | Posted March-22-2010
I don't know ... it was just ok for me. Something to pass the time. The lyrics were the usual lyrics, not all the time connecting. The best I can describe it is elevator music for Christians ...

They are just starting, so hopefully they improve and dive into the scriptures for lyrical inspiration, instead of the music of their peers around them.

Its New, It's Different ... I like it :) | Posted March-22-2010
I would have to say that this is the first Shane & Shane Album that could be used for more than a special music at church. I really like that its a worship album but without the usual standards (covers of others) on most other worship albums. They give us a new songs to sing. Its not like they sacrificed creativity to give the church something to sing ... its them but easy for the average person to use in their music sets.

I definitely hear the influence of Bethany's music in You Have Resurrected My Heart.

I like how they bring back the scripture songs in Psalm 73 (You are my portion), but with their updated sound. I especially love Shane E.'s soulful vocals the second time around. At first you are like, oh its the same words but when Shane E comes in ... that's some powerful stuff.

I can't quiet narrow it down to any favorites. Its all still quite new for me.

Unexpected ... | Posted October-22-2008
I've never listened to Ruth before, so I was expecting to have my ears assaulted by blaring guitars, metal drums ... basically heavy metal. But I was pleasantly surprised to hear a cross between a softer Relient K, with the instrumental stylings of Switchfoot. I'm listening to it now ... the vocals sound very Switchfoot and the instruments are Switchfoot, not quite punk like Relient K.

The only thing lacking is the great songwriting skills of Jon Foreman & Matt Theissen. Ruth's lyrics are just a tad sophomoric compared to theirs. But they are definitely a band to follow :)

Now That's Building 429! | Posted October-17-2008
I've got to say I've been on the fence about Building 429, the last album I bought was their EP. It was a great little EP ... and when the full version came out I didn't get it because it was missing songs from the EP.

I really wanted to like Building 429 but I only liked one or two songs off of their Rise album. Then they came out with Iris to Iris ... and I started warming up to them, but never enough to buy the album until now ... this self-titled album is what I've been waiting for! This is the Building 429 I fell in love with at Space In Between Us.

Not only are the lyrics better, deeper, wonderful ... the musiciality is amazing. One great example is, Always, Always ... the ending to that song is so affirmative. The strings soar, the bass is awesome ... the drums beat out the very emotion of what it means to hold onto faith in God no matter what may come your way. I love it.

Nothing New ... | Posted August-06-2008
Unfortunately I'm going to have to agree with the majority. Nothing really jumps out at you by the fourth song you are ready to just turn it off. It all sounds the same and the lyrics are sophomoric. She does have a great voice ... I only wish she had great songs.

3 Stars ... | Posted March-04-2008
Updated 3/4/08: Of course after writing this review and typing up all the lyrics, I couldn't get the songs out of my head. So the melodies are definitely catchy and stay with you. I still find the lyrics lacking a little and I can't always connect them or make total sense of them, but its a good album.

Original Review: The melodies are great and he and his band know how to rock out. The melody lingers in your head and you find yourself humming but the lyrics don't always connect or make sense.

This cd is great for just playing in the background but not much else for me unfortunately. I guess I've been spoiled by the lyricism of Phil Wickham, Shane & Shane and David Crowder. They have that element of digging deeper than the regular cliches.

If you are a fan of Jared's by all means give this album a listen for yourself!

Just for me this album would join the ranks of a lot of my cds from the 90's ... just sitting on my shelf.

Well ... | Posted February-21-2008
They aren't exactly my favorite band ... but they aren't bad either. It could easily fall in the background for me ...

I don't know sometimes the instrumentation came across a bit weird for me. Go Oboe! ... sounds like it should have been on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. I guess this album borderlines experimental on some tracks.

I don't know ...
