Climbing Up the Valley
Posted August 26, 2009
By bethany_graceR,

Her voice has never failed to inspire every generation, with her lovable as well as unlovable characters, speaking to those who share the same spirit with hers, or for every girl (and boy too) that grew up with tales from Avonlea and Prince Edward Island.

Here comes another story about an orphan, and her dreams, and how she meets the people of New Moon.
Montgomery introduces us to Emily, who I can say does not have the charm of Anne that made us love her, but whose persistence, courage and imagination takes us hand in hand from our own self-doubts and to the place to where we also had to choose who we wanted to be. Emily's dreams and how she had to prove that she had the right to pursue it is inspiring, in a way that we wish for her to achieve it with the least sacrifice. We long to stay on the path with Emily, as this story closes with her dream to climb up the valley's side and perhaps find favor in the sight of the gods, that may lend her the glory of becoming a poetess.

It is great to have a character to root for and to cheer on..along with her friends. At times we see reflections of ourselves in Montgomery's characters, and that is what makes her books even more charming.
