Comatose blows away any previous album
Posted July 25, 2008
By Legendary_Reviewer,

After a 3 year break since their last full release, even the panheadz were saying "this had better be worth it" They got their wish.

A strong opening with Rebirthing, the first single from the CD, you could tell this was going to be a wild ride. With an amazing synth at the beginning, you could tell this was different than any of their previous sound. It was not Grunge or Hard rock. It was definitely not electronica. It was new. New is good.

As Rebirthing fades into The Last Night, you can tell Cooper's style hasn't changed. He still offers Christian solutions to common problems, while still relating to the listener.

After The Last Night, the album has its first Ballad(which, in a live show, Cooper joked that they put on the album "Just so chicks would buy our record"), entitled Yours to Hold. I'm not a fan of Ballads, and I don't really like either on this album(though I have higher expectations of Skillet, because of songs like "Will You Be There", and "Under My Skin"). Not much else to say

Better than Drugs. Lyrically, a very risky song...but risk big, win big, right? Right. This song quickly became one of my favorites on the album, and actually feels like it could fit on Collide, while still not feeling out of place here. Musically, the intro is the best part. It goes downhill from there.

The next song is my personal favorite by Skillet...period. Comatose. The song sounds great, and talks of how life is a Comatose without God. Wow, for being my favorite, there's not a lot to say...I guess that's because I don't have to outline cons about the song.

The next 2 songs sound almost identical in the beginning. Older I Get and Those Nights. 2 "power ballads" that are somehow becoming trends in the music industry. I like Those Nights more.

The next song is another 5/5, Falling Inside the Black. Following the same Formula as Rebirthing and Comatose, but doing it differently. I love the intro to it.

The next song is a mediocre ballad...and I KNOW Skillet can do better. They HAVE done better with ballads. That's all I'm saying

The next song is another amazing song: Whispers in the dark. All I can say is read comatose and falling inside the black.

The album closer is...strange. it's not really a song. I like it, but I'm sure there are people that are like "That's so Stupid!" and press stop after Whispers. It's good subject matters, and kids, if you ever have to memorize poetry for class, I recommend this song, entitled Looking for Angels
